Lunation Calendar Overview

A physical calendar for reading time as a cycle rather than a grid.

The Lunation Calendar is designed to help you live in closer relation to the cycles of the Moon, Earth, and Sun. It is being developed as both a practical companion and a ritual object: precise, beautiful, and grounded in the living sky.

What it is

The Lunation Calendar is a set of circular charts organized by lunation: one chart for each cycle from new moon to new moon, plus a year chart for the year as a whole.

Around those circles, the charts bring together lunar phase, dates, moon and sun elevation, zodiac position, rare events, seasonal markers, and the visible appearance of the Moon.

The calendar offers precise sky information and symbolic reference points, but it leaves interpretation open. It gives form to recurring patterns while leaving room for your own systems of meaning, practice, and attention.

Who it’s for

The Lunation Calendar is for people who want a more direct relationship with celestial time.

It may be especially at home with artists, astrologers, ritual practitioners, designers, observers of the sky, and anyone drawn to moon-first ways of orienting themselves in the world.

Format

It is a physical printed calendar, but not a standard grid calendar or a conventional planner. It is a set of circular charts meant to be handled, laid out, and returned to on a table, altar, desk, or other working surface.

It can support planning and reflection, but it is not designed with boxes for appointments or tasks. Its primary purpose is orientation: noticing recurring sky patterns and returning attention to the shape of the year.

Astrology and interpretation

You do not need to know astrology to use the calendar. It can support astrological or symbolic use, but it is also useful as a way to observe lunar phases, seasons, sky paths, and recurring celestial cycles.

The Lunation Calendar uses the tropical zodiac. Zodiac positions are included as symbolic reference points along the ecliptic, not as a claim that the visible constellations have the same boundaries.

The calendar does not tell you what the patterns mean. It gives you precise sky information and symbolic reference points so you can bring your own systems of meaning, practice, and attention.

First edition

The first edition is specific to Amsterdam because many sky relationships are local. Moonrise, elevation, and the visible character of the sky depend on place.

The lunar phase cycle and many symbolic readings still apply elsewhere, but local sky details are designed for Amsterdam. Future editions may be developed for other locations.

The first Amsterdam edition is currently in development. Planned contents include:

  • 14 lunation charts
  • 1 year chart
  • a reading guide

Details may continue to evolve during development. The calendar is not available yet; subscribe for occasional updates, including launch and availability announcements.
